CHAPTER THREE

Tank

I have never spent that amount of time talking to a woman without trying to get in her pants. It felt easy and natural. Pandora is great to talk to, but I know she’s holding back. Some of her answers were really vague, and she never truly gave much away about her personal life. I still have no clue what she does for a job, her home life, or her family, but her vagueness just makes me want to know more. She really is living up to her name and turning into Pandora’s box. A box I really want to open and find all the secrets inside.

I walk back to my bike with a bounce in my step. I’m glad she agreed to go on a date with me, but now I need to work out where to take her. It needs to be somewhere special, and I know just the person to help, so I head over. Pulling up to Joker’s house, I park in the drive and walk in like I live there.

“Honey, I’m home,” I shout.

“Uncle Tank,” says Beau as he comes running around the corner.

“Hey kid,” I greet him as he plows into me, and I widen my feet to brace myself.

The kid never fails to greet me like this, and if I’m not ready, he’ll have me on my ass. Ruffling his hair, which annoys him, he quickly puts it back with a grimace on his face. Chuckling, I head to the kitchen, following the amazing smell.

“Oh, what’s for dinner?” I ask, helping myself to a beer out of the fridge.

“Spaghetti,” Carrie says while placing a kiss on my cheek.

“Yes, my favorite.”

Suddenly feeling a slap across the back of my head, I turn.

“My family, not yours,” Joker says, swiping the beer out of my hand and taking a gulp.

“Aww, don’t be jealous. They love you almost as much as they do me,” I tease him with a smirk.

Carrie rolls her eyes at the banter. Even though Joker knows I’m winding him up today, for some reason, it feels different. Not for him but for me. I’m jealous. I’ve never been jealous before, but I am today. I want to come home and greet an amazing woman with a few rug rats running around the place.

“You okay, Tank?” Carrie asks as she places her hand on my bicep.

Fuck, I was so lost in my head, I didn’t realize I was still standing in the same place.

“Yeah, sorry. I need a favor,” I say as I slip my arm around her neck and pull her in for a hug.

Joker is my best friend, but I have this connection with Carrie. She’s like a non-romantic, platonic soulmate. She just gets me on a level no one else ever has.

“What’s the favor?” she asks as she moves back to the stove.

“I’ve got a date, and I need to make it extra special.”

The second it leaves my mouth, I swear the room gets so quiet, you could hear crickets and see a tumbleweed roll past.
